Saturday’s Prep Cross Country: W.F. West Competes at John Payne/Curtis Invitational

UNIVERSITY PLACE — W.F. West had several runners compete at the John Payne/Curtis Invitational cross country race here on Saturday.

In the Girls Varsity 1 race, Elaina Koenig finished 91st for the Bearcats with a time of 21 minutes, 46 seconds. Xylia Warner (22:40) finished 108th, Iris Van der ploeg (23:31) earned 116th and Riley Johnston (23:58) finished 121st.

Rainier’s Selena Niemi (20:03) placed 45th and Sophie Beadle (20:23) finished 53rd.

In the Girls Varsity 2 race, W.F. West’s Olivia Calderon (23:54) finished 81st and Cadence Edminster (26:05) finished 114th.

In the Boys Varsity 1 race, W.F. West’s William Taylor (17:02) took 90th place and Henry Jordan (17:34) earned 124th place. Myles Johnston (18:09) placed 152nd and Jayden Carroll (19:17) earned 171st for the Bearcats.

In the Boys Varsity 2 race, Zachary Wood (19:18) finished 131st and Jaysen Miles (19:36) earned 138th place.

W.F. West races next on Wednesday at an Evergreen 2A Conference meet at Black Hills.

Adna’s Aselton Finishes Fourth at Hoquiam Grizzly Invitational

HOQUIAM — Adna’s Aaron Aselton finished in fourth place at the Hoquiam Grizzly Alumni Invitational cross country race here on Saturday.

Aselton finished the race in 18 minutes, 22 seconds. Teammates Thaikhan Tripp (23:05) finished in 28th and Willy Ames (23:43) earned 30th.

Oakville’s Vincent Gates finished 27th with a time of 22:11 to lead the Acorns. Kenai Fry (25:17) placed 35th and Fry Klayton (25:31) earned 36th place.

Aberdeen’s Gary Sherman won the race in 17:37.

In the girls race, Adna’s Haileigh Brooks took 10th with a time of 25:23. Melli Wolf (26:10) finished 13th for the Pirates.

Aberdeen’s Katharina Kempe won the race in 22:18.

Adna is back in action on Saturday at the Bill Kehoe South Sound Invite in Lacey.

Toledo’s Nicholas Marty Captures Harvest Classic Title

LONGVIEW — Toledo’s Nicholas Marty beat the rest of the field by more than 10 seconds to claim first place at the Harvest Classic cross country race here on Saturday.

Marty completed the race in 16 minutes, 7 seconds. Teammate Tyler Harris (18:31) finished 11th and Aiden Umbriaco (19:05) earned 17th. Jacob Butcher (21:29) finished 46th for the Indians.

In the girls race, Toledo’s Andrea Jones (28:44) finished 35th.

Toledo races next at the Timberline & River Ridge 5K Tuesday in Lacey.
