Summer Baseball: I-5 Toyota Falls in Final Three Games of Red Devil Tournament

I-5 Toyota/Mountain Dew won on Friday but fell in all three games on Saturday and Sunday at the Lower Columbia Red Devil Tournament in Centralia.

On Friday, I-5 Toyota defeated Kelso 6-0. Benito Valencia pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just one hit and three walks while striking out seven batters.

Luke Bennett had four hits and a RBI and Max Taylor added two hits and a RBI. Teegan Zillyet and Max Miller each had two hits.

I-5 Toyota scored one run in the first inning and piled on three runs in the fifth and two more runs in the sixth. Valencia had a no-hitter until the sixth inning, allowing a drag bunt single for the only hit of the game for Kelso.

On Saturday, Black Hills knocked off I-5 Toyota, 7-5. Sawyer Burdick started on the mound and was relieved by Brit Lusk in the second inning. Lusk pitched the rest of the way, allowing two runs on five hits with two strikeouts.

Taylor had two hits and a RBI and Zillyet also had two hits. Lusk helped his cause at the plate with a 2-RBI single.

I-5 Toyota scored two runs in the first inning, but Black Hills put up seven runs in the second inning and held off the I-5 Toyota comeback.

In the nightcap on Saturday, Wilder out of Port Angeles defeated I-5 Toyota, 7-1. Drew Rose started on the mound and was relieved by Bodey Smith in the fourth inning. Smith gave up four hits and struck out three in the relief appearance.

Carter Olson had a hit and a RBI and Burdick, Miller and Bennett each had a hit.

Wilder scored two runs in the first, second and seventh inning to secure the win.

Kelso was able to get revenge on Sunday, taking down I-5 Toyota, 10-8. Landon Hawes started on the mound and was relieved by Sawyer Burdick in the second inning. Bennett came on in the fifth inning and pitched the rest of the game.

Taylor had two hits including a double and two RBI and Bennett had two hits including a double and a RBI. Miller also added two hits for I-5 Toyota.

Kelso scored three runs in the first and two runs in the second and third innings to pull ahead 7-0 after three innings. I-5 Toyota responded with two runs in the fourth and six runs in the fifth to take an 8-7 lead. Kelso plated three runs in the top of the seventh and held on in the bottom of the inning for the victory.

I-5 Toyota will compete next at the state tournament. I-5 Toyota is scheduled to play Selah Pepsi on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Daniels Field in Anacortes to begin the tournament.
