College Softball: Centralia Swamps Lakers to Stay in Second
By The Chronicle
The Trailblazers swept Southwest Oregon College in a pair of NWAC South Conference softball games here on Saturday. Centralia scored seven runs in both games while their pitchers managed to hold the Lakers to just four runs and two runs, respectively.
Dakota Brooks was nearly all the Blazers needed in the first contest as she pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts. Brooks scattered seven hits and two walks while allowing four runs. She helped make up for anything she gave up on defense by whacking a pair of hits, including a double, at the plate.
Plenty of other Blazers were keen to help Brooks out, though. McKenna Smith and Shelby Levang both had a pair of hits, including a double, and a run batted in. Britzy Hockett added a triple and a run batted in while Jamie Carlson and Skylar Olson drove in two runs each.
Jaedyn Shaughnessy picked up the win in the circle for Centralia in the second game with five strikeouts and two runs allowed in a complete seven inning effort.
Centralia scored two runs in the first inning before the Lakers tied the game up in the third inning. The Blazers added three runs in the fourth inning and two runs in the sixth inning to pull away for good.
Dean led the Blazers with two hits, including a double, and three RBI. Smith and Olson each had to hits and two RBI while Jayden Benson, Hockett, and Carlson tallied two hits each. Brooks added a pair of RBI to the winning score.
Centralia (22-11, 14-7 league) currently stands in second place in the NWAC South Conference. The Blazers will play at Clackamas on Tuesday in a doubleheader set to start at 3 p.m.
