Friday’s Girls Tennis: Black Hills Edges W.F. West on Third Tiebreaker

By The Chronicle

The Wolves spoiled W.F. West’s Evergreen 2A Conference girls tennis opener on Friday, beating the host Bearcats on a tiebreaker.

Each team won three of the six matches, with W.F. West sweeping singles play. Each team also won six sets, though Black Hills got the victory with a 53-50 edge in games won

Joelle Chung won 6-0, 6-2 in the top singles match and played well, according to Bearcat coach Jack State. Jisu Han won at No. 2 singles and Sadie Jerome got a tight 7-5, 6-4 win at third singles with a come-from-behind victory in each set.

Mak Moore and Lexis Haller, moving up a few spots to play in the top doubles match, also performed well, State explained. Moore and Haller lost 6-3, 6-3 to Black Hills’ Abby Calvert and Serina Ryser.

“Mak and Lexis have been our No. 3 doubles team, or sometimes a JV team, but they did a really nice job against a team from Black Hills that’s supposed to be one of the better doubles teams in the league,” State added.

W.F. West (5-2, 0-1 league) plays at Aberdeen on Monday.
