Wednesday’s Prep Baseball: Montesano Tops Tenino
MONTESANO — Montesano scored at least three runs in every inning to record a 14-1 win over Tenino in a 1A Evergreen League baseball game here on Wednesday.
Logan Brewer was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Beavers.
Tenino scored the first run of the game in the top of the first, but it was all Bulldogs after that, scoring three runs in the first and second innings and four runs in the third and fourth innings to end the game early.
“We got out-pitched and out-hit, plain and simple,” Tenino coach Ryan Schlesser said. “They’re a good team and they came out and punched us in the mouth and we didn’t have an answer.”
Tenino (0-6, 0-1) will resume a game against Hoquiam on Thursday in Tenino. The game will continue with the Beavers up 1-0 in the bottom of the second.
‘Nooks Nearly Toss a No-No at Winlock
WINLOCK — Kalama kept a combined no-hitter alive through a driving rain and into the fifth inning here Wednesday before settling for a 17-2 non-league baseball victory over the Cardinals.
Nathan Suhrbier dropped in Winlock’s only hit of the day with a poke over the shortstop. Earlier in the game he stung a ball to centerfield that was caught due to expert defensive positioning by the Chinooks coaching staff.
Winlock didn’t do themselves any favors on defense as they committed 11 errors in the five inning affair before the game was called due to the 10-run mercy rule. Conversely, Kalama’s junior varsity unit totaled eight hits as a team and made only one defensive error.
Davidson and Esary were the Kalama pitchers who kept the Cardinals off balance through four innings.
Zach Prue played well defensively for Winlock and selflessly soaked up the final outs on the mound.
Winlock (0-4) will play at Naselle on Friday.
