2B Football: Toledo Rolls Past Wahkiakum

CATHLAMET — Toledo ran for 341 yards to defeat Wahkiakum, 24-6, in a SWW 2B League River Division football game here on Friday night.
Ethan Buck accumulated 96 yards on 12 carries with two scores, Duke Schaplow had 87 yards on six carries and Colbey Cherrington added 67 yards on 15 runs.
Bryce Marcil was 4 of 14 passing for 42 yards. Cherrington caught two passes for 23 yards and Fano Arceo-Hansen caught two passes for 19 yards.
Toledo’s defense held Wahkiakum to 167 yards on the ground and 269 yards of total offense.
“I think we came out a little slow, but we picked it up in the second half,” Toledo coach Mike Christensen said. “We were able to pull ahead of a good football team. I’m proud of the way we played, especially defensively.”
Marcil scored a second-quarter touchdown on an 18-yard run for a 7-0 lead at halftime.
Buck scored in the third quarter on a 23-yard run and Andreas Malunat added a 38-yard field goal for a 17-0 lead. Wahkiakum scored its only points in the third quarter on an 8-yard pass from Luke Brown to Evan Quigley.
The Indians put the game away in the fourth quarter with Buck’s second touchdown of the game on a 2-yard run.
Christensen commended the offensive and defensive line play of Hunter Eaton and Jemal Anderson against the Mules.
Toledo (3-4, 2-1 league) hosts Winlock in the battle of the Cowlitz on Friday in Toledo.

Adna Crushes Rainier to Remain Undefeated
ADNA — Adna had more than 400 yards of offense in the first half and held Rainier to 48 yards in the first half for a 49-6 win in a Southwest Washington 2B Mountain Division football game here on Friday night.
The Pirates logged 497 yards of total offense against the Mountaineers, with 371 of those yards coming on the ground. Quarterback Braden Thomas led the way with 133 yards on five carries and two touchdowns. Chance Fay had 80 yards on two carries and a touchdown and Sawyer Burdick added 63 yards on three carries and a score.
Thomas also completed 3 of 5 passes for 126 yards and two scores. Brady Collins caught two passes for 88 yards and two scores.
Rainier couldn’t do much offensively, amassing 121 yards of total offense.
“We knew what they were going to do. We had them scouted out, and our kids knew every play before it was coming. It was just total domination,” Adna coach KC Johnson said. “We spent a lot of time on that game plan and those kids knew it. It was fun to watch them execute it. We played amazing defense, and did all the right things. I’m really proud of them.”
The scoring started with Thomas connecting with Collins on a 19-yard pass. Thomas took it himself 72 yards for the next score. Burdick scored a touchdown on a 44-yard run for a 22-0 lead after the first quarter.
Chance Fay started the second quarter with a 65-yard scamper to the house. Thomas completed his second touchdown pass of the night on a 69-yard pass to Collins, and Thomas scored his second rushing touchdown of the night on a 53-yard run for a 42-0 lead at halftime.
Rainier scored their only points of the game in the third quarter with a 6-yard TD run by Michael Green. In the fourth quarter, Mitch Maynard converted a 6-yard touchdown run for the final score of the game.
“We played amazing. We’re getting better every week, they couldn’t get a first down,” Johnson said, adding that his team averaged 18 yards a play in the first half. “We played really well. I was proud of the kids. They knew the game plan and they came to play.”
Johnson also gave well wishes to Rainier’s Brody Klein, who was taken off in an ambulance in the third quarter.
Adna (7-0, 3-0 league) travels to Onalaska for a Mountain Division contest on Friday.

Titans Clobber Hyaks
MENLO — Pe Ell-Willapa Valley took it to North Beach early here on Friday, scoring 40 points in the first half to cruise to a 46-24 win in a Southwest Washington 2B Coastal Division football game.
PWV’s Max Smith accounted for 53 yards on six carries and Landon Issacsin added 43 yards on five carries. Quarterback Logan Walker was 2 for 2 passing for 82 yards and a touchdown. Wyatt Bush caught one pass for 63 yards and a score and Sam Western caught a pass for 19 yards.
Walker ran in the first score of the game from 2 yards out, then connected with Bush for a 63-yard score and ran in his second score of the game on a 25-yard run that put the Titans up 21-0 after one quarter.
The second quarter started with Smith returning a punt 57 yards for a touchdown, and Smith followed it up with a 1-yard touchdown run. Carson Cox scored on a 2-yard touchdown run for the 40-0 lead at intermission.
Wyatt Marrs ran in a score from four yards out for the Titans’ final score of the game. North Beach’s Jared Armbuster got the Hyaks on the board to end the third quarter, and the Hyaks balanced out their scoring in the fourth.
“I think we played really good, especially the cloud with injuries that has been over us. We’re down six starters,” PWV coach Josh Fluke said. “Some of these kids that have had to step up and play different positions, and they did real well for kids never playing varsity football before.”
Fluke complimented the play of his offensive line, citing Kiah Carter, Adam Smaciarz, Luke Gerow, Kayden Miller and Jerimiah Yost.
PWV (5-2, 4-0) travels to Westport to take on Ocosta on Friday in a Coastal Division game.

Morton-White Pass Wins in Overtime Against Life Christian
RANDLE — With the game in overtime and Morton-White Pass needing an extra point for the tie or a two-point conversion for the win, MWP coach Lee Metcalf said it was a no brainer.
“There was no question we’re going for two and gettin ‘er done,” Metcalf said.
Jesse Urban ran it in from 2 yards out for a 22-21 T-Wolves win in a Southwest Washington 2B Mountain Division football game here on Friday night.
MWP’s Dylan Hamre had 87 yards on 13 carries and Gavyn Higdon tallied 112 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown. Kaleb Rashoff was 6 of 13 passing for 71 yards and a touchdown and Higdon was the leading receiver with four catches for 53 yards and a score .
After a scoreless first quarter, Hamre scored on a 2-yard run for an 8-0 lead at halftime.
Life Christian got on the board in the third quarter with a 65-yard run by Dai’Shaun Nichols. The Timberwolves answered with Rashoff finding Higdon for a 14-yard touchdown pass to pad the lead.
MWP had a chance to put the game away in the fourth quarter, but a fumble gave the Eagles the ball back. Life Christian tied the game in the fourth quarter on a 2-yard run by Nichols to send the game into overtime.
In overtime, the Eagles started on offense and scored on a 24-yard pass from Nathan Joslin to Noah Robinson. MWP received the ball and scored a touchdown on a 12-yard run by Higdon, with the Urban conversion run earning the win for the Timberwolves.
“We had our moments. We’re pretty beat up and we had little trouble adjusting,” MWP coach lee Metcalf said. “In overtime, we really played well. We’re either going to win or lose it, I wasn’t too confident with the missed extra point. We were going for two, it wasn’t a question. The young kids are stepping up and playing well.”
MWP (5-2, 1-2) hits the road to face Rainier on Friday in a Mountain Division game.

Winlock Clinches Playoff Berth With Win Over Toutle Lake
WINLOCK — The Cardinals were partying like it’s 2010 on Friday night, clinching a playoff spot with a 41-27 win against Toutle Lake in a SWW 2B League River Division football game.
Winlock has secured its first playoff berth since 2010, which the Cardinals also sealed by defeating the Ducks eight years ago.
Quarterback Bryce Cline was 8 of 11 passing for 173 yards and three scores and also ran 17 times for 96 yards and a touchdown.
Anthony Clevenger was the top receiver with five catches for 103 yards and two scores.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Ducks took an early lead on a 1-yard run by Hunter Stout. Winlock answered with Cline finding Noah Patching for a 43-yard touchdown.
Toutle Lake regained the lead on an 18-yard pass from Chase Hadaller to Logan Grabenhorst. Cline found Clevenger for an 18-yard touchdown pass to even the score at 14 at intermission.
The Ducks scored the only points of the third quarter on a 43-yard pass from Hadaller to Mike Adams.
It was all Winlock in the fourth quarter, scoring 27 points to pull away. Cline found Clevenger for a 7-yard pass, followed by a 3-yard run by Logan Hall to take the lead. Cline scampered into the end zone from five yards out and Everado Garcia scored on a 3-yard run to put the game out of reach.
Winlock (3-4, 2-1 league) travels to Toledo for a River Division battle on Friday.
Note: Kalama defeated Mossyrock 67-7 in Mossyrock on Friday in a SWW 2B River Division football game.
