Wednesday’s Boys Tennis: W.F. West’s Chung, Cameron Win Sub-District Title

TUMWATER — W.F. West’s Joseph Chung and Cade Cameron won the doubles title at the sub-district tennis tournament at Tumwater Valley on Wednesday.
Cameron/Chung defeated Bearcat teammates Colin Slattery and Caleb Walters in three sets with scores of 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.
W.F. West won the sub-district team title.
Cameron/Chung started the day by defeating Tumwater’s Sawyer Loughee and Alex Abbott with set scores of 6-3, 6-0. The win advanced the duo into the the semifinals against Centralia’s Johan Lopez and Landon Kaut, earning the win in three sets with scores of 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3.
Slattery/Walters started the day against Aberdeen’s Cody Sayers and Brice Kola, winning in straight sets 7-5, 6-4. Slattery/Walters moved into the semifinals and faced Tumwater’s Jake Johnson and Gunnar Fields, earning the victory in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
W.F. West’s other duo playing on Wednesday was Jacob Blomdahl and Christian Iverson. The pair started the day with a loss to Johnson/Fields in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Blomdahl/Iverson had to stay alive against Kola/Sayers, winning in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
The duo faced Kaut/Lopez in their final match, falling to the Centralia pair in three sets, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 7-5, making Blomdahl/Iveson the alternate into the district tournament.
“All three doubles teams really did a nice job. Our second doubles team played the best they’ve played all year,” W.F. West coach Jack State said. “They had opportunities. They all just played really well.”
In singles, W.F. West’s Luke Walters fell to Black Hills’ Jonathan Schade in three sets, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. Andrew Pak faced Centralia’s Ben Corwin to start the day, with Pak falling in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Walters is the singles’ alternate and Pak is the alternate after Walters.
W.F. West’s Slattery/Walters and Chung/Cameron will compete next Thursday and Friday in the District 4 2A Tournament at Club Green Meadows in Vancouver.
