Prep Basketball: Regional Matchups Set

The WIAA has announced regional pairings, with sites and times, for next weekend’s prep basketball playoffs on Sunday afternoon.

Here’s a quick rundown of who’s playing where:

2A Boys

W.F. West, which finished third in the District 4 tournament and has the #8 RPI ranking, faces #1 Lynden on Saturday at 6 pm at Mount Vernon High School.

2A Girls

W.F. West, which won the District 4 championship and holds the #2 RPI ranking, faces #7 Lynden (the defending state champion) on Friday at 6 p.m. at Tumwater High School. (Editor’s note: The WFW/Lynden games were originally swapped on the brackets, but that’s been corrected. Everything is as it should be, or close to it.)

2B Boys

Morton-White Pass vs. Adna, Friday, 8 p.m., W.F. West High School: The Pirates were first and the Timberwolves third in the District 4 tournament. This will be their fourth meeting of the season; they’ve been decided by a total of 11 points.

Liberty (Spangle) vs. Toledo, Saturday, 2 p.m., W.F. West High School: Liberty’s back in our orbit. Fantastic! Toledo finished fifth in districts but was the #3 team in RPI, ahead of Adna, Toutle Lake and MWP — all of whom placed ahead of Toledo in districts.

Toutle Lake vs. St. George’s, Saturday, 2 p.m., at University (Spokane) HS: The Ducks take a pretty significant road trip for one game.

2B Girls

Napavine vs. Colfax, Friday, 6 p.m., at W.F. West: The Tigers went from #2 to #4 on the RPI board pretty quickly with a loss to #1 Ilwaco in the District 4 title game.

Mossyrock vs. Brewster, Saturday, 2 p.m., at Wenatchee HS: This is the one loser-out game featuring a local team scheduled for next weekend.
