2A Volleyball: Loss to Hockinson Ends Bearcats’ Season
The Bearcats’ season came to a close with a 3-1 loss to Hockinson on Monday night in Chehalis.
Hockinson, the fifth-place team out of the Greater St. Helens 2A League, won the pigtail contest and will advance to the first round of the District 4 2A Volleyball Tournament.
“We played them tough. It’s just hard,” W.F. West coach Emily Mora said. “It’s not the way you want your season to end. I didn’t think we finished like we needed to; we’d be up, and then we’d let them creep back into sets.
“It’s definitely not the finish we could have done.”
Hockinson (8-8) faces Woodland on Wednesday. W.F. West finishes the season with a 7-8 record.
“I saw quite a bit of improvement. The belief is there; we’re just building,” Mora said. “We’re continuing to get better each year.”
It was the final match for Bearcat seniors Haley Simmons, a setter, and outside hitter Ashlee Vadala.
“It’s going to be tough to replace both of them,” Mora said, “But I know they’re well-equipped to go off in the future and do great things and represent our community well.”
The District 4 tournament starts at 4 p.m. on Thursday at Black Hills High School, with Columbia River playing Tumwater and Centralia facing Ridgefield. Washougal and Black Hills face off at 6 p.m., as do Hockinson and Woodland.
