Wednesday’s 2B Girls Soccer: Pirates Close Regular Season With Win Over Onalaska
By The Chronicle
ADNA — Adna sent its seniors out on a high note here Wednesday night with a 2-0 win over Onalaska.
The win concludes the Central 2B League girls soccer regular season for both teams. Adna (13-2, 13-1 league) had already sealed the C2BL championship.
Payton Aselton scored in the 29th minute on a penalty kick, and assisted Rachel Burke on a goal in the second half.
“Onalaska’s come a long ways,” Pirate coach Juli Aselton said. “(Onalaska coach Christopher VanClifford) and I both knew it was our last league game, so we traded players in and out. Everybody on his team got to play, and everybody on my team got to play.”
Senior Jenikka Poppe, who has been out with a knee injury, got a chance to check in and play goalie, Aselton added, and Brynn Arrington, Emily Sliva and Jordyn Swenson all played well.
“They all had a really good game,” Aselton added. “It’s nice when we can spread it around and everybody’s playing together.”
Seniors Poppe, Lizzy McAuley, Lizet Rosas, Abby Kruger and Gwen Wilson were honored before the game.
Adna enters the District 4 2B Girls Soccer Tournament on Tuesday as a No. 1 seed, playing Ocosta at 7 p.m. at Centralia’s Tiger Stadium. The winner advances to the State 1B/2B playoffs.
Notes: Toledo closed out the season with a 3-1 win over Winlock on Wednesday night, finishing the season with a 5-10 record. Winlock (3-11) hosts Evergreen Lutheran on Thursday to wrap up its season.
