Adna Beats LCA, Clinches League Title

UNIVERSITY PLACE — Adna clinched the Central 2B League girls soccer championship here Monday night, beating Life Christian 3-1.

The win gives the Pirates (12-1 league, 12-2 overall) the league title outright with one game left in the regular season. Life Christian and Kalama are tied in second place at 10-3.

Payton Aselton scored on a free kick, and then scored on an assist from Emily Sliva, to put the Pirates up 2-0 at halftime. Sliva then assisted Gwen Wilson on a goal in the second half, and Life Christian sent a pass forward in the second half that took a bounce over the goalie’s head for the final 3-1 margin.

“We were pretty excited tonight,” Adna coach Juli Aselton said. “We knew we had to score three goals or take the win, so we felt pretty proud.”

Payton Aselton and Sliva played well in the midfield, the coach added, and Jordyn Swenson played a good game defensively.

“Our defense really stepped it up tonight,” Aselton said. “They had to close down the middle, and they did a really good job.”

Adna hosts Onalaska on Wednesday in a senior night game to wrap the regular season, and will play in the District 4 2B Girls Soccer Tournament semifinals on Oct. 31, against the fourth-place C2BL team, at Centralia’s Tiger Stadium.

Notes: Napavine beat Toledo, 6-0, on Monday night in Toledo. Chloe Stewart scored twice for the Tigers, with Jenna Sisson, Lucy Sevilla, Sydney Burdick and Gabby Garcia all adding goals. Napavine (5-9, 5-7 league) hosts Life Christian on Wednesday. … Kalama beat Onalaska 2-0 on Monday night, with goals from Chloe Gould and Emily Mickelson. The Loggers (3-11, 2-11 league) play at Adna on Wednesday to close the regular season.
Ocosta Tops Winlock 3-0

WINLOCK — The Cardinals kept Ocosta in check for most of the game, but the Wildcats got on the board in the second half and added a few late goals in a 3-0 Central 2B League girls soccer win here Monday.

Katelynn Denny, Kjirstin Hopfer and Kennedy Merino all scored for Ocosta, though Winlock kept things scoreless until the 62nd minute.

“We had some chances. We did a lot of good things in the first half,” Winlock coach Brian Ziese said. “We just ran out of gas in the second half, and they countered us pretty good there at the end.”

Ocosta’s last two goals came in the game’s final four minutes.

“I think our girls came out and played pretty good tonight,” Ziese added. “Zero-zero was a pretty big improvement for us.”

Winlock (3-11, 2-11 league) closes out its league slate on Tuesday with a 6 p.m. game at Toledo, and wraps up the season on Thursday with a makeup game against Evergreen Lutheran.

Note: The game was the Cardinals’ senior night, and Rachael Annonen, Maggie Howsden, Becca Nielson and Sable Pirtle were recognized prior to the game.
