Thursday’s Girls Soccer: W.F. West Shuts Down Rochester
W.F. West’s Lauren Tornow scored two goals to lead the Bearcats to a 4-0 win over Rochester in an Evergreen 2A Conference girls soccer game in Chehalis on Thursday.
Tornow scored her first goal in the 12th minute on an assist from Madi Mencke. Courtney Bennett added a goal in the 28th minute on an assist from Abbey Duffey. Duffey scored the next goal in the 36th minute, with an assist by Becca Deskins.
Tornow scored her second of the night in the 40th minute on a corner kick, assisted by Tizzie Zylstra.
“The girls played really well tonight,” W.F. West coach Allen Anderson said. “I was pleased with their attack, the buildup was much better tonight and they combined passes really well.”
It was senior night for Bearcats’ Kiara Steen, Megan Wilks and Ashley Abbott.
W.F. West (6-8, 5-4 league) will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, hosting Centralia at 1 p.m. in a Swamp Cup matchup. Rochester plays in Aberdeen on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Notes: Black Hills defeated Centralia 8-0 in an EvCo match on Thursday. … The W.F. West/Centralia game was moved up to Saturday to accommodate a potential tiebreaker game between Centralia (3-6) and Aberdeen (3-6), which would be played Tuesday. The winner will then play in a pigtail game against a Greater St. Helens 2A Conference opponent on Thursday for the final spot in the District 4 2A Girls Soccer Tournament, which starts on Saturday, Oct. 28. … The Bearcats’ 5-4 league record secures third place in the final EvCo standings. Black Hills (9-0) won the league championship, and Tumwater (7-2) is locked into second place.
