TENINO — Tenino scored a goal in each half against W.F. West to earn a 2-0 win in a nonleague girls soccer match here on Thursday.

“I think it went really good. It’s a huge improvement from last year, W.F. West got like six (goals) on us,” Tenino coach Adam Barr said. “I was impressed but we’ve got a few things to work on. I think we can get our passes a little better up front.”

The Beavers scored in the 27th minute on a goal from Lannie Dowies, who fired a shot from the left side that found twine. In the 47th minute, Brieanna Dell scored for the Beavers, getting behind the defense and putting away a shot to seal the win.

“She (Dell) helps out alot. She brings a lot of excitement up there to the front,” Barr said. “We’re starting to work the balls more to the wings now too, so we’re a threat from all sides.”

W.F. West had more time of possession and more scoring chances, but the Tenino defense held strong and Maria Collins earned the shutout in goal for the Beavers.

“We accomplished what we worked on. We worked on switching the field, keeping our possession through the midfield and they did absolutely that,” W.F. West coach Allen Anderson said. “They got better, as a team, working on those things that we trained. We didn’t work on finishing. We didn’t work on our movement in the final third this week and it showed because the final product wasn’t there, but that will come.”

Tenino (3-0) hosts Rochester next on Tuesday in a nonleague game, while W.F. West (0-4) hosts Elma on Tuesday in a nonleague match.
