Saturday’s 2A Girls Tennis: Centralia’s Corwin and Jeffries Win District Tennis Title
OLYMPIA — Centralia’s Ellie Corwin and Hannah Jeffries had already secured a spot in the state tournament, but added to their doubles resume with a championship here Saturday in the District 4 2A Girls Tennis Tournament.
The Tiger pair beat Tumwater’s Nicole Howard and Mikayla Kee 7-6, 4-6, 6-0 in the doubles finals to wrap up the district title. They’ll face Othello’s Tanaya Anderson and Katie Walker on Friday at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle in the first round of the State 2A girls doubles tournament.
Columbia River’s Faith Grisham defeated Centralia’s Rachel Wilkerson 6-3, 6-1 in the District 4 singles finals. Wilkerson faces Sedro-Woolley’s Kassidee Beuse in the first round on Friday.
W.F. West’s Sydney Cameron beat Aberdeen’s Aleta Pratt for the third District 4 singles spot to the State 2A tournament after beating R.A. Long’s Megan Meharg 6-0, 6-1 in the consolation semifinals. Cameron plays Foster’s Aileen Nguyen on Friday at state.
W.F. West’s Mya Davis and Megan Wilks beat Hockinson’s Kristie Heagen and Madi Beckley 6-0, 6-2 in the consolation semifinals, then beat Washougal’s Rebecca Boylan and Beyonce Bea 6-3, 6-0 for the third doubles spot to state. Davis and Wilks play North Kitsap’s Flynn Hibbs and Stine Nielsen in Friday’s first round.
“It’s really a tough thing to do,” W.F. West coach Jack State said of the Bearcat trio moving on. “That’s a sophomore and two juniors, so we’re very pleased with what they were able to accomplish.”
