UNDEFEATED: Toledo/Winlock Combo Squad Finishes Regular Season 12-0 in League Play

CAMAS – United finished the regular season undefeated in 1A Trico League play, defeating Seton Catholic 4-1 here on Thursday.
The Toledo/Winlock combo squad finished the season 12-0 in league play, and has won 15 straight games after losing their opening game to R.A. Long.
“I’m really happy, it was a great way to end the season undefeated with a win. I’m proud of all the guys and I’m enjoying the season a lot,” United coach Horst Malunat said.
United scored first in the 24th minute, as Isaac Garibay converted a penalty kick for a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Seton Catholic tied the game up in the 41st minute on a goal from Patrick Ryan. But United bounced back six minutes later, as Nicholas Patching scored on an assist from Gustavo Barragan.
The lead was pushed to 3-1 in the 65th minute, as Patching found Jonathan Van Vleck for the goal. United ended the scoring in the 71st minute, as Patching returned the favor, assisting a goal for Barragan.
“I think they played really well. When you’ve already won league title, what motivates you the rest of the season?” Malunat said. “The last four games, we kind of had to get after it. I don’t think we played our best, but we played better the second half and put things away.”
United ends the season outscoring opponents 80-9, and outscored league opponents 63-4.
The combo squad has earned a first round bye in the Southwest District 4 1A soccer tournament and will play next Thursday, May 11 at 7 p.m. at King’s Way Christian in Vancouver against the winner of White Salmon and Elma. United has won four straight against White Salmon going back to last season, including a 3-1 win in last year’s district tournament, and beat Elma 5-0 in the opening match of last year’s district tournament.
