College Softball: Lady Blazers Split With Mt. Hood

The Lady Blazers had an up-and-down doubleheader against Mt. Hood Saturday at Fort Borst Park, losing the first of a pair of NWAC West Region softball games 11-1 but bouncing back for a 7-5 win in Game 2.

Nariah Morgan went 2 for 2 and drove in Centralia’s only run in the first game, while Mikayla Deffenbaugh added a double. Mt. Hood pitcher Sammie Byron struck out four and held the Blazers to three hits.

Blazer pitcher Mackenzie Olson, however, held the Saints to six hits in Game 2 and struck out three without issuing a walk to get the win.

Catcher Mikayla Kanaswer homered and went 2 for 4 with three RBIs in the Blazers’ win. Sam Rolfe had a hit and drove in a run, and Centralia scored five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to seal the victory.

Centralia (12-10, 10-7 league) hosts Lower Columbia on Monday in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Fort Borst Park.
