Centralia’s two-day, four-game series with Grays Harbor proved to be an equal matchup, with the teams splitting games on Saturday at Ed Wheeler Field and repeating the act on Sunday at Olympic Stadium.

Centralia lost 7-1 in Saturday’s opener before winning 3-0, then won Sunday’s first game 9-1 before falling 5-1 to close out the NWAC West Region baseball series in Hoquiam.

The Blazers managed nine hits off Grays Harbor’s Tyson Johnson in Saturday’s opener, but couldn’t translate those hits into runs, leaving 15 runners on base. Jordan Martinez went 3 for 3 with an RBI and two walks, and Trevor Zimmerman had two hits for the Blazers. Wes Kuzminsky worked 2 1/3 flawless innings of relief, striking out one without allowing a hit or putting a runner on base.

John Sharkey tossed a complete-game shutout in Saturday’s nightcap, fanning five with one walk and six hits. The offense, meanwhile, backed him up, with Martinez and Josh Muneno each accounting for two hits and Taylor Mondina and Dylan Cotto each driving in runs.

Centralia pounded out 17 hits in Sunday’s first game, with Gabe Farrer hitting two doubles and going 3 for 5 with two RBIs. Munon had three hits and knocked in four runs, Cotto was 3 for 3 and Zimmerman doubled and drove in two runs.

Jack Oswood worked the first seven innings to get the win, striking out eight and allowing three hits with an earned run.

Grays Harbor had the upper hand in Sunday’s series finale, with pitcher Andrew Snyder striking out four and holding Centralia to five hits in the complete-game effort.

Pe Ell native Red Arrington went 2 for 3 for the Chokers with an RBI, and Koby Millner drove in four runs for the winners.

Mitch Johnson doubled for Centralia, and Mondina drove in the Blazers’ lone run in the first inning.
