Thursday’s Boys Soccer: United Records Another Shutout Against Montesano
MONTESANO — United recorded their eighth shutout of the season, defeating Montesano 1-0 in a nonleague boys soccer game here on Thursday.
The first half was scoreless, but United got on the board in the 76th minute. Andreas Malunat crossed the ball to Gustavo Barragan, who fired a shot at the Montesano goalkeeper. The save was made by the keeper, but the rebound found Julian Sanchez, who knocked the rebound into the net for the only goal of the game.
Alan Contreras records another shutout for United in the net.
“We were moving people around and trying some different lineups,” United coach Horst Malunat said. “It was nonleague, so we wanted to try something. We were playing on turf and that’s what playoffs will be on.”
United (11-1, 8-0) has won 11 straight games since losing their opener, and will play next on Tuesday at Winlock against Columbia-White Salmon in a 1A Trico League game.
Aberdeen Shuts Out W.F. West 3-0
The Bearcats played tough, but couldn’t get past Aberdeen on Thursday in a 3-0 Evergreen 2A Conference boys soccer loss in Chehalis.
Aberdeen scored twice in the first 10 minutes, and added the final goal in the second half.
“We held them,” W.F. West coach Tino Sanchez said, of the period between the second and third goals. “We were taking it to them after a while, and we just can’t get it in the net.”
Defenders Cesar Morales, Sergio Gomez and Tyler Laufenberg all played well, Sanchez noted.
“I was really pleased with their play,” he said. “I can’t knock them for anything. They keep their heads up, and they keep on trying.”
W.F. West (1-9-2, 0-7 league) hosts Rochester on Tuesday.
Note: Rochester lost, 5-3, to Tumwater on Tuesday, while Centralia lost 4-3 to Black Hills.
