Thursday’s 1A Baseball: Beavers Pound Out Hits in 20-0 Win
TENINO — The Beavers scored early and often here Thursday, hammering Elma 20-0 in an Evergreen 1A League baseball contest.
Tenino, which beat the Eagles 9-2 on Tuesday, scored nine in the first inning and led by the final score at the end of three frames.
“We got deep into their pitching in the first inning, and that definitely helped us,” Tenino coach Conner Hogue said. “But 1 through 9, we were making great contact all day.”
Spencer Brewer went 3 for 5 with a leadoff home run and a double, and Jace Griffis was 3 for 3 and scored four runs.
Robbie Wall went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, Coulson Chambers was 2 for 3 with four RBIs, and Dylan Stakelin was 2 for 2 and reached base in all four trips to the plate.
Freshman Michael Born went 1 for 1 and notched his first varsity hit in the win.
“I think they kind of ran out of pitching, but it was more a case of us hitting the ball,” Hogue said. “It wasn’t a walk-fest. Everybody hit the ball well.”
Miles Cannon tossed 2 ⅓ no-hit inning, and freshman Logan Brewer closed out the game without giving up a run. The duo combined for four strikeouts.
“Everybody got a chance to play,” Hogue added. “Everybody got at-bats, so that was fun.”
Tenino (3-4, 2-1 league) hosts Hoquiam on Friday.
