NAPAVINE — The Tigers swept a Central 2B League doubleheader here on Friday, defeating Toutle Lake 12-6 and topping Kalama 2-1 in eight innings.
Napavine faced off with Toutle Lake in the first game of the modified twinbill, and used a six-run fifth inning to earn the win.
Sam Fagerness worked six innings on the mound, allowing four hits and two earned runs while striking out nine batters. He helped his cause at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a double, a triple and an RBI.
Seth Butler was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Dawson Stanley was 2 for 4 with two doubles and four RBIs.
Napavine led 3-2 after three innings, but blew the game open in the fifth. Toutle Lake tried to comeback in the seventh inning with three runs, but Garrett Shannon shut the Ducks down on the mound to cap the win.
“I thought our kids played pretty well. It took us a little bit to get going, but once we started getting the bats going, we put some nice swings on the ball and scored a bunch of runs,” Napavine coach Brian Demarest said. “It was a great day for baseball. They played with a lot of emotion, and it was good to see them break that thing open in the fifth.”
The Tigers followed it up with a tight 2-1 win over Kalama in eight frames, which featured a pitcher’s duel between Wyatt Stanley and Kalama’s Cameron Walker — both of whom threw seven shutout innings.
Stanley allowed one hit, walked two batters and struck out 15 in the no-decision. Kalama then scored in the top of the eighth, but the Tigers evened things up when Dawson Stanley singled and scored on a triple from Shannon.
Mason Butler stepped up next and hit a grounder to second, and the bobbled ball allowed Shannon to score the winning run.
“They’re the real deal. They’re good,” Demarest said of Kalama. “They play disciplined baseball. For seven innings, you couldn’t ask for anything more. It was fun to watch.”
Napavine (6-0, 6-0 league) travels to face Adna on Saturday, April 8, in a C2BL doubleheader.

Titans Handle Vikings
PE ELL — Kaelin Jurek’s home run in the fifth inning sparked Pe Ell-Willapa Valley to a 10-4 win over Mossyrock in a Central 2B League baseball game here on Friday.
Jurek hit a solo homer to start a three-run fifth inning, and the Titans added four more in the sixth to put the game away.
Tyson Nissell was 3 for 4 with an RBI and Ryan Shepherd was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI for PWV.
Cub Bair pitched 5 ⅔ innings, striking out four batters while allowing four runs.
“We were hitting the ball well from the start. Jurek had that home run, then we put it together,” PWV coach Kelly Barnum said. “The energy level just picked up. … When we hit the ball, we compete, but we’re going back and forth. When the kids put it together, we’re talented, and we can compete with anyone in the league.”
PWV (2-3, 2-3) travels to face Morton-White Pass next Saturday in a C2BL doubleheader starting at noon. Mossyrock (0-4, 0-4) travels to Randle to take on MWP in a C2BL matchup on Wednesday.
