Friday’s 2A Softball: W.F. West Rolls Past Rochester
By The Chronicle
ROCHESTER — W.F. West scored eight runs in the second inning and cruised in a 16-1 win over Rochester in an Evergreen 2A Conference softball contest here on Friday.
Lexie Strasser got the start in the circle for the Bearcats, pitching four shutout innings with three strikeouts and two hits.
Ashlee Vadala was 2 for 3 at the plate with a three-run homer and four RBIs. Paetynn Lopez hit a solo home run in her only official plate appearance, with two walks and two runs, and Jordan Crawford was 3 for 4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs for the Bearcats.
Lopez’s homer came in the second inning, and Vadala’s homer highlighted a six-run fifth inning that sealed the win.
“I don’t remember an error. I was pleased with our defense,” W.F. West coach Mike Keen said. “The pitching was good today. Some new kids were swinging the bat well. Some of the girls were too impatient and swung at not their best pitch with no strikes on them. … I’m being nitpicky.”
It was the second straight loss for Rochester, which fell to Tumwater on Thursday, and coach Jared Lancaster said he’s trying to keep his team’s confidence high.
“It’s getting better, especially to improve body language wise and morale wise, going from Tumwater to this team,” Lancaster said. “We were able to make those changes. They know that we’re growing, they know that we’re gelling each day. We’re just trying to do the best we can right now, and that’s a tough team to try to make adjustments against.”
W.F. West (3-1, 1-0) is off until after spring break, facing Tumwater on Tuesday, April 11, in an EvCo matchup. Rochester (3-4, 0-2) is also back in action on April 11, hosting Black Hills in a conference contest.
Tumwater Thumps Centralia
TUMWATER — The Thunderbirds made short work of Centralia here Friday, leading 6-1 after an inning en route to an 18-6 Evergreen 2A Conference win.
Sara Potwin went 2 for 2 with six RBIs hit a grand slam in the first inning for Tumwater, while Julia Glasgo added a solo home run. Myah Seaton added three hits for the T-Birds, while Sawyer Vessey worked all five innings in the circle to get the win.
Hannah Porter hit a two-run homer for Centralia, which had 11 hits in the loss.
Centralia (2-3, 0-2 league) hosts Aberdeen on Tuesday, April 11.
