Toledo Thumps PWV in Title Game Rematch

TOLEDO — Dakota Robins was unflappable on the mound and Toledo cruised in a 12-1 win over Pe Ell-Willapa Valley here Wednesday.

The Central 2B League baseball game was a rematch of the 2016 State 2B championship game, which Toledo won 4-1.

Robins started for the Indians and faced 10 batters in three innings, striking out nine without allowing a hit or issuing a walk. Kaelin Jurek, who reached on an error, was PWV’s only runner on base while Robins was on the mound. The senior used just 47 pitches in the effort, meaning he’ll be available on Friday, according to Toledo coach Jeff Davis.

“The pitch count thing made it easy for me,” Davis said, of limiting Robins to three innings despite his success. “It’s early in the season, and if we didn’t have the pitch count I would have probably ran him out there for 60 or 65 pitches.”

Dylan Hoiseck closed out the win for Toledo, striking out two in two innings and giving up three hits and a run.

Toledo scored 10 runs in the first inning, using four walks, two errors and singles from Hoiseck, Cody Towns, Matt Stavig and Jackson Kuzminsky — and a double from Hunter Eaton — to blow the game open early.

“It was pretty good. We bunched our hits in the first inning, and they had some errors,” Davis said. “It was pretty impressive, being able to do it on both sides.”

Kuzminsky went 1 for 2 and drove in two runs, while Hoiseck, Eaton and Stavig were each 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Max Smith, Luke Gerow and Tyson Nissell each had hits for PWV.

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley (0-2) hosts Toutle Lake on Thursday, while Toledo (1-2) hosts Rainier on Friday.
