Six Local Grapplers Qualify for the Mat Classic Championships
17 Area Wrestlers Still Battling for Tournament Hardware
TACOMA — W.F. West, Adna and the Toledo/Winlock wrestling program are each sending two grapplers to the finals of the Mat Classic later this afternoon at the Tacoma Dome.
W.F. West qualified Damon Thomas and Hunter Arredondo, each of whom placed second at the Mat Classic last year. Thomas claimed his spot in the 138-pound finals with a second round pin over Zack Nguyen of Cheney and heavyweight Arredondo punched his ticket with a 7-0 decision over Kenny Marll of Orting.
Adna’s Braxton Dowell reserved his 145-pound championship match spot with a narrow 6-5 decision over Travis Knauff of Garfield/Palouse and 152-pound Matthew Slape dropped Dane Hall of Colfax by a 9-6 count to secure his spot in the finals.
Toledo’s heavyweight Dalton Yoder is returning to the championship match for the third straight year after pinning Hunter Dawley of Reardon in their heavyweight matchup and Winlocks’ 195-pound Seth LIndsey defeated Jerome Lael of Kittitas to make the finals.
Michael Anderson of W.F. West fell 8-4 to Deven Maddy of Lindbergh in their 152-pound seminfinal match and fellow Bearcat Brenden Spahr lost 6-4 to Winston Scott of East Valley (Spokane) in their semifinal match.
In other semifinal action, Mykka McAllister of Centralia fell 7-1 to Max Wheeler of White River, Adna’s Lucas Ashley dropped a decision 12-0 to Chris Rivera of Tonasket and fellow Pirate Kameron perry was pinned by Luke Peebles of Kittitas, while Aydan Costin of Napavine fell to Ethan Land of Reardan by a score of 12. In girls action, Winlock’s Hannah Randall was pinned by Sienna Ramirez of Lakes and Sidnee Arcury of Centralia was pinned by Flor Parker Borrero of Wilson.
