Napavine’s Halee Williams puts up a shot next to Adna’s Ruby Bower during a District 4 2B basketball tournament game in Rochester on Thursday.

By The Chronicle
ROCHESTER — Devanie Kleemeyer scored 16 points to lead the Pirates past Napavine 56-24 in a District 4 2B basketball tournament game here on Thursday night.
Darian Humphrey added 9 points for Adna. Mollie Olson led Napavine with 8 points and Becca Snaza added 6 points.
Adna wasted no time and took an 18-8 lead after the first quarter, and padded the advantage to 32-13 at halftime to cruise to the win in the second half. The Pirates played well in the fourth quarter, shutting out the Tigers in the final frame.
“We’re preparing for every game here on out like it’s our last because that’s where we were the last two game,” Adna coach Chris Bannish said. “We were in loser out games and so it’s hard for me to preach playing hard and playing to win every night and come into something and not give it your all. I thought Napavine did what they needed to do to get ready for next week and for Saturday and I think we did the same.”
Bannish noted that he was able to get a lot of different players into the game, which will benefit the program in the years to come.
Adna will face Ilwaco in Chehalis on Saturday at 1 p.m. in 3rd-4th place game, while Napavine will face Raymond on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Rochester in the 5th-6th place game. The game, however, has no bearing on the teams’ respective seeds into the regional playoffs. Due to the WIAA’s new RPI rankings, once the six teams from District 4 are finalized, the rest of the tournament is irrelevant as far as seeding goes; Adna is 11th in RPI, while Napavine is 21st, which means both teams will play loser-out regional games next week.
