Weekend Wrestling: Adna Places Third At Beach Brawl Tournament

ILWACO — Adna’s Ashton Dowell won the 160-pound crown, helping lead the Pirate wrestling team to a third place finish at the Beach Brawl Wrestling tournament here on Saturday.
Dowell won his first match by pin, earned a win by an 11-5 decision in his semifinal bout and won the championship match by pin over Kelso’s Kyler Doty.
Three Pirates finished in second place. Adna’s Lucas Ashley at 126 pounds, had two pins on his way to the finals, where he lost a 10-6 decision to R.A. Long’s Dakota Teigen. Braxton Dowell, wrestling at 145 pounds, also had two pins en route to the championship match, falling to Ilwaco’s Jack Odneal by pin. Matthew Slape finished in second at 152 pounds. Slape had two pins to get to the finals, but came up on the wrong end of an 8-5 decision over Kelso’s Riley Harper.
Aaron Slape was able to place at 132 pounds for the Pirates.
Toledo’s Dalton Yoder won the 285 pound tournament. Yoder won his first match by pin, his second match by a 1-0 decision, and capped the tournament with a 15-0 technical fall over Mark Morris’ Jevin Anderson.
Adna is back on the mats on Saturday at the sub-regional tournament at the Northwest Sports Hub in Centralia.
Napavine Earns Two Wins
TUMWATER — The Napavine Girls Wrestling team earned a win over Tumwater 44-12 at the Tumwater Girls Mix & Match here on Saturday.
Kaitlyn Bornstein earned three wins by pin at 135 pounds, and Billie Bergeson picked up two wins by pin at 130 pounds. Sydney Burdick won two matches by pin at 125 pounds and Cassie Duren won a match at 140 pounds.
On the boys side, Onalaska’s Dusty Thayer won all of his matches by pin, while Napavine’s Aydan Costin had two wins by pin and earned an overtime decision win.
Napavine and Onalaska are back on the mats on Saturday at the sub-regional tournament at the Northwest Sports Hub in Centralia.
Note: The Napavine girls outscored their opponents 33-12 at the Elma Mix & Match last Thursday. Bergeson, Bornstein and Cassie Duren at 140 pounds all earned wins. The Napavine-Onalaska boys wrestled at North Beach on THursday, with Costin, Thayer, Austin Olson (133 pounds) Casey Oxford (145 pounds) and Josh Palmentier (182 pounds) each won a match.
