Wednesday’s Prep Boys Basketball: Pirates Rally in Fourth to Beat Goats

By The Chronicle
CHELAN — Adna scored 28 points in the fourth quarter to come from behind and defeat host Chelan 55-47 in the Chelan Holiday Tournament here on Wednesday.
Conner Weed led the Pirates with 14 points, and Tanner Rigdon and Cody Young each scored 13 for the Pirates. Blake Davis was the other Pirate in double figures with 11 points.
Adna was down 33-27 after three quarters, but opened up the fourth quarter with a 13-0 run to take the lead and made 13 of 15 free throws in the fourth to seal the win.
“We executed press break that got us buckets. We got the tempo up, and were just in full court man to man defense. Our guards started turning them over,” Adna coach Luke Salme said. “We scored more in the fourth than the previous three combined. We were definitely the aggressors attacking the rim. You hit free throws and you can win close games.”
Chelan had a 16-15 lead at halftime. The Goats was able to distance themselves a bit in the third quarter with a 6-point lead heading into the fourth.
“It was kind of a grind. We didn’t shoot it well but we were solid defensively,” Salme said. “They are a solid team.”
Adna (6-2) faces off against a familiar foe in Life Christian in the championship game today at 7 p.m. in the Chelan Community Gym.
