Monday’s 2B Girls Basketball: Warriors Trounce Trojans
By The Chronicle
PUYALLUP — Chief Leschi shots the lights out and Pe Ell was unable to match the firepower as the Trojans took a 68-42 Pacific 2B League loss on the road Monday.
Warriors sophomore Mylina Pluff detonated for a game-high 26 points, while Alicia Pluff added another 20 herself and Chief Leschi handed Pe Ell its third consecutive loss.
The Trojans had no answer for the Pluffs. The 6-foot Mylina hit a couple early 3-pointers to keep the Trojans honest, and when Pe Ell came out to the arc she torched the Trojans’ post players inside.
“She was tough,” Pe Ell coach Randy Driver said. “ We tried to stop her.”
Chief Leschi (11-5, 10-4) shot a blazing 47 percent from the field on 26 of 55 shooting, while Pe Ell managed to connect on just 17 of their 54 shots at a 31 percent clip. It didn’t help that they hit just one 3-pointer all night.
Pe Ell was led offensively by senior Kammi Hill, who had a team-high 13 points. Freshman Charlie Carper had a big-time game down low, posting a game-high 16 rebounds while adding 12 points. Junior Annika Mason contributed 8 points for the Trojans.
Despite poor shooting, the Trojans had a monster outing rebounding, collecting 48 rebounds to the Warriors 34. But it wasn’t enough to stem the offensive tide of the Warriors.
“They shot really well and hit a lot of 3s,” Driver said. “We need to learn to close out better and get a hand in their face.”
The Trojans fell to 7-9, 7-7 and sit in fifth place in the 2B Pacific, trailing Willapa Valley (10-6, 9-5) by two games and hold a one-game lead over South Bend (6-10, 6-8).
Driver is hoping Pe Ell can turn it around when it hosts Northwest Christian (Lacey), a team that is 3-13, 3-11.
