Thursday’s 2A Boys Basketball: Wolves Blow Past Centralia 76-35

Wolves Blow Past Centralia 76-35

TUMWATER — Centralia stayed within striking distance for the first quarter, but the balanced Wolves were too much down the stretch here Thursday night.

Black Hills outscored Centralia 44-16 over the second and third quarters to run away with a 76-35 Evergreen 2A Conference win.

“We had good looks, but we did not shoot the ball well from the outside,” Centralia coach Kyle Donahue said. “We just didn’t finish some easy ones, and at that point it started to get away from us.”

The Tigers went 13 of 41 (31%) from the field, and were outrebounded 28-21.

One bright spot on the glass, however, was junior center Benito Valencia.

“He was tough, rebounding-wise,” Donahue said. “He really took some pride tonight in trying to rip some boards down.”

Valencia finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

“He worked hard getting the ball in the post,” Donahue added. “That’s kind of the Benito we were looking for all season. I think he’s finally coming into his stride right now.”

Justin Hicks led Black Hills with 15 points. Zach Crumley added 12, and 10 different Wolves scored.

Centralia (2-10, 1-1 league) hosts Tumwater on Wednesday.
