Balanced Warriors Start EvCo Slate With Win Over Centralia

ROCHESTER — The Warriors had four players in double figures here Wednesday night, and survived a big game from Carissa Kaut to beat Centralia 60-45 and start Evergreen 2A Conference girls basketball play with a win.

Paige Winter led Rochester with 19 points. Lexie Sederberg-Jones added 16, and Megan Elkins chipped in 10.

Senior forward Kortney Kerbaugh added 10 points with a team-high 14 rebounds and seven steals.

“Kortney certainly kept us in the game,” Rochester coach Davina Serdahl said. “She played really well and did all the little things.”

Kaut, the Tigers’ senior guard, led all scorers with 26 points.

“They really came ready to play,” Serdahl said. “Kaut had a great game for them.”

Rochester (7-3, 1-0 league) hosts Tumwater on Friday. Centralia (3-8, 0-1 league) hosts Black Hills on Friday.

 

Black Hills Starts Hot, Tops Bearcats

TUMWATER — The Wolves jumped out to a nine-point first quarter lead and held on, beating W.F. West 67-61 here Wednesday in EvCo girls hoops action.

Miakei’ Lea Flores led Black Hills (7-2) with 20 points, while Megan River added 17.

“It was definitely a good test for us. They’re a good team,” W.F. West coach Kyle Karnofski said. “They’re a veteran team who’s had some really good experience, obviously.”

Annika Waring led W.F. West with 20 points. Taya McCallum added 15, and Madi Mencke chipped in 10.

The Bearcats managed to outscore Black Hills, 19-15, in the fourth quarter.

“We had a really gritty comeback, but it was just too little, too late,” Karnofski said. “Our effort was there in the second half, for sure.”

W.F. West (6-4, 0-1 league) plays at Aberdeen on Friday.
