Saturday Briefs: Toledo’s Marty Sixth at State XC, Bearcats Send Four Swimmers to State

Toledo’s Marty Sixth in State XC Meet

PASCO — Toledo’s Nicholas Marty was the top local finisher here on Saturday at Sun Willows Golf Course, finishing sixth in the 1B/2B boys State Cross Country Championships.

Marty, a junior, ran the 5K course in 16 minutes, 12 seconds. Ilwaco’s Daniel Quintana won the state title, in 15:55.

Adna’s Aaron Aselton was 44th in the 1B/2B boys race in 17:40, with Morton-White Pass’ Alex Brown 46th in 17:41. The Timberwolves finished 14th as a team.

On the girls side, Rainier’s Selena Niemi was 12th in 20:38, leading the Mountaineers to an 11th place finish as a team.

MWP’s Olyvia Brownell was 34th in 21:28. Life Christian’s Gabby Martin won in 17:57.

In the 1A boys race, Tenino’s Sam Hill finished 44th in 17:10. Adam Briejer, from Charles Wright Academy, won the state title in 15:50.

Rochester’s Levi Jennings was the top local placer in the 2A boys race, finishing 74th in 17:06.

W.F. West’s Elaina Koenig was 81st in the 2A girls race, in 21:18.


Bearcats Send Four Swimmers to State

TUMWATER — W.F. West managed to get four of their swimmers into the state tournament thanks to a series of solid performances here in the district meets at Tumwater on Saturday.

Alexa Dupre, Alana Lawson, Hallie Sciera, and Madysen Kambich will all take their aqua talents to the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way for state competitions beginning Thursday.
