Tuesday’s Prep Girls Soccer: W.F. West Falls to Mark Morris to End Season
By The Chronicle
W.F. West built a lead at halftime but couldn’t hang on in the second half as the Monarchs won 6-3 in a District IV 2A girls soccer tournament consolation game in Chehalis on Tuesday.
Heaven Burr scored for Mark Morris in the eighth minute for an early lead. The Bearcats responded in the 13th minute, as Cameron Sheets found the back of the net off of a Tizzie Zylstra corner kick. W.F. West took the lead in the 20th minute on a goal by Madi Mencke with an assist by Elizabeth Patana.
The Monarchs tied the game in the 31st minute on an assist by Allie Scudder, but W.F. West was able to gain a 3-2 lead going into halftime with another goal by Sheets off of a corner kick by Zylstra.
Burr recorded a hat trick in the second half, scoring goals in the 44th, 47th and 54th minutes for a 5-3 lead. Scudder scored the final goal of the night for the Monarchs.
W.F. West senior goalkeeper Aeryn Elder made eight saves in the loss.
“I was pretty proud of the girls. They played hard for the whole game, that was probably the fastest team we’ve seen this season,” W.F. West coach Allen Anderson said. “They have a really great attack. We hung with them in the first half but struggled in the second half. No. 7 was a strong forward, she was able to get loose in the second half. This is one of my more memorable teams, it was a pretty fun season.”
Anderson noted he will miss the group of seniors leaving the team including Abbey Duffey, Taya McCallum, Becca Deskins and Aeryn Elder.
The Bearcats end the season 11-6-1 overall and 6-4 in Evergreen 2A Conference games.
