Wednesday’s Boys Golf: W.F. West Swings Past Aberdeen
By The Chronicle
W.F. West’s Connor Trodahl earned match medalist honors to help the Bearcats earn a 212-238 win against Aberdeen in an Evergreen 2A Conference boys golf match here on Wednesday.
Trodahl carded a 40 to take the top spot. W.F. West’s Dirk Plakinger shot a 41 to finish second and teammates Camryn Bostwick and Tukker Rosbach along with Aberdeen’s Nolan King each shot a 42 to tie for third.
Micah Ethel rounded out the Bearcats with a 47.
“They played very well, not as well as on Monday but good enough to beat Aberdeen,” W.F. West coach Matt Klovdahl said. “Trodahl, that was his best round of the year. He’s been playing really well the last two weeks and he’s peaking at the right time for districts.”
W.F. West travels to Tumwater Valley on Monday for the final match of the regular season against the Thunderbirds.
Centralia Shoots Well, Still Falls at Black Hills
TUMWATER — The Tigers turned in one of their best performances of the season but it still wasn’t enough to keep pace with the Wolves here on Wednesday in 2A Evergreen Conference boys golf action. Black Hills wound up defeating Centralia 217 to 229.
Centralia’s Rudy Voetberg was the match medalist with a round of 38.
“I think that’s his third 38 round of the season. He again played really well today. He’s really one of our top kids in our league and he’s playing like that,” said Centralia coach Hal Gronseth. “Any time you play, there’s always strokes that you feel like you left on the course but when you shoot a 38, there aren’t very many of them.”
Gronseth added that while Voetberg typically hits the ball well off the tee, it was his secondary shots that set him up for success at Tumwater Valley Golf Course.
Brett Wasson added a round of 43 to the Centralia score while Nolan Rice and Jesse Kuykendall turned in scores of 46 and 47, respectively. Jayden Pannette rounded out the Tigers’ scoring with a tally of 55.
“We played well. I think this is our best score and we still got beat by 12 strokes,” noted Gronseth. “Jayden Pannette, our fifth scorer, that was his best score by five strokes so it was exciting to see him come in with a 55.”
Gronseth went out of his way to point out the promising play of his junior varsity players as well.
“Allan Osborne, Wyatt Baumel, Sawyer Terry, Landon Yost, Mateo Guerrero, they just as a group played really well today,” said Gronseth.
Centralia (5-4) will finish up 2A EvCo play at Aberdeen on Monday.
