Wednesday’s Boys Tennis: W.F. West Takes Down Black Hills

By The Chronicle

TUMWATER — The Bearcats won all but one match against the Wolves in a 5-1 win in an Evergreen 2A Conference boys tennis match here on Wednesday.

Black Hills’ Jon Schade won in the top singles match against Gabe Cuestas, 6-4, 6-3.

“First singles, it was a good match. Jon (Schade) has been playing really well. Gabe did a really nice job,” W.F. West coach Jack State said. “It was a battle the whole way, very good tennis.”

It was all Bearcats after that, with Luke Walters earning the win in the No. 2 singles match against Ryan Cokl, 6-1, 6-0. Andrew Boggess won in the No. 3 singles match against Black Hills’ Koichi Faasciamali, 6-1, 6-1.

W.F. West’s top duo of Cade Cameron and Joseph Chung defeated Laurie Calvert and Josh Do, 6-0, 6-1. Collin Slattery and Caleb Walters earned the win against Black Hills’ Evan Martinez and Kyle Lince, 6-0, 6-0. Jacob Blomdahl and Christian Iverson completed the sweep for the Bearcats with a default win due to no opponent from Black Hills.

“Collin (Slattery) and Caleb (Walters) were definitely better than the kids they played,” State said. “I’ve been really happy with the way they’ve been playing. They’re doing a really good job for us.”

W.F. West (8-2, 5-1) hosts Aberdeen on Monday in the final home match of the season for the Bearcats.
