Tuesday’s Prep Cross Country: Morton-White Pass Boys, Rainier Girls Earn Team Titles at C2BL Meet

RAINIER — The Morton-White Pass boys and the Rainier girls won team titles at a Central 2B League cross country meet here on Tuesday.

In girls action, Rainier’s Selena Niemi won with a time of 20 minutes, 42 seconds. Teammate Sophie Beadle was close behind in second place with a time of 20:45, almost two minutes faster than the third place finisher. MWP completed the Top 5 as Olyvia Brownell finished third in 22:23, Ayricka Hughes took fourth in 23:14 and Alissa Hughes finished fifth in 23:22.

Rainier runners finished sixth through ninth, including Clara Wagner (23:39, sixth), Hailey Tyrrell (24:32.17, seventh), Hazel Busic (24:32.39, eighth) and Lorianne Price (24:34, ninth). MWP’s Jordan Koetje rounded out the Top 10 with a time of 24:44.

Toledo’s Greenlee Clark (24:50) finished 13th, Heather Fenison (26:15) earned 19th and Andrea Jones (28:49) placed 24th. Adna’s Faith Wellander (24:58) took 14th, Haileigh Brooks (25:46) finished 17th and Melli Wolf (26:19) took 20th.

Rainier won the team title and Morton-White Pass finished second. Toledo earned third place.

In the boys race, Toledo’s Nicholas Marty blew away the competition with a time of 17:00, more than a minute faster than Adna’s Aaron Aselton in second place with a time of 18:20.

MWP’s Matt Cooper finished third in 18:34, Toledo’s Tyler Harris finished fourth in 18:44 and MWP’s David Martinez completed the Top 5 in 19:01.

Alex Brown (19:02) finished sixth for the T-Wolves and Rainier’s Ryan Doidge (19:12) and Tyler Barlass (19:21) took seventh and eighth place. MWP’s Manuel Martinez (19:31) earned ninth and Toledo’s Aiden Umbriaco (19:43) finished 10th.

MWP earned the team title and Toledo finished second while Rainier placed third.

Adna competes next at the Hoquiam Grizzly Alumni Invitational on Saturday. Toledo will compete on Saturday in the Harvest Classic while Rainier will also be back in action on Saturday at the 24th John Payne/Curtis Invitational. MWP will race next at an Evergreen 2A Conference meet at Borst Park in Centralia next Wednesday.

Onalaska Boys Take Second at Toutle Lake Meet

TOUTLE — The Kalama boys edged Onalaska by three points as the Logger boys took second at a Central 2B League cross country meet here on Tuesday.

The highest local finisher was Mossyrock’s Christain Paz-Tapia in third place with a time of 19 minutes, 41 seconds. Toutle Lake’s Riley Kent won the race with a time of 17:24.

Onalaska had four runners place in the Top 10. Lethon Fitch (20:08) placed fifth and Jacob Russon (20:09) was right behind him in sixth place. Trevor Blair (20:22) took seventh place and Devon Wright (20:51) earned 10th. Mossyrock’s Charlie Paz-Tapia (20:25) finished eighth and Miguel Gomez (21:12) was just outside the Top 10 in 11th place.

The Mossyrock boys finished in third place as a team.

In the girls race, Onalaska’s Jennifer Reiman took second in 22:29 and teammate Renate Prazak finished fifth with a time of 27:06. Samantha Conner placed eighth for the Loggers in 28:28.

There were no Mossyrock girls in the race. Kalama was the only team to have enough runners for a team score.

Onalaska has more than a week off before racing next at the Bill Kehoe South Sound Invite in Lacey on Oct. 12. Mossyrock races next Wednesday at an Evergreen 2A Conference race at Borst Park in Centralia.
