Wednesday’s Boys Tennis: Bearcats Defend Home Courts From Tiger Invasion
By The Chronicle
W.F. West was able to turn Centralia away by a score of 5-1 in Evergreen 2A Conference boys tennis play here on Wednesday. The Bearcats swept the doubles portion of the match and took two of three singles showdowns.
Joseph Chung and Cade Cameron defeated Brandon Yeung and McKiernan Jones, 6-1, 6-0, while Colin Slattery and Caleb Walters downed David Parsons and Aiden Faber, 6-0, 6-1. Christian Iverson and Jason Bloomdahl brought home a win be default.
“The doubles, we were pretty dominant,” said W.F. West coach Jack State.
Centralia’s Ryan Mack brought home the only win on the day for the Tigers with a 6-0, 6-2 defeat of Gabe Cuestas.
“You know, Ryan is the defending league champion,” noted State. “We’re really happy with the way he played. He battled. Ryan is just that much better.”
Luke Walters was able to get W.F. West in the win column by defeating Landon Kaut, 6-2, 3-6 and 7-5. Andrew Boggess was able to down Centralia’s Kyuss Mano in three sets, 6-4, 3-6 and 6-4.
“Luke was up and down in his match. Very inconsistent. When it finally got to where it was 6-5 he came back and made a solid game where he didn’t make mistakes. It was a good comeback for him,” said State. “Andrew was a lot of the same. My instruction to him at the end of the second set was you have to stay out there long enough to win every single point.”
Looking across the net, State came away impressed with the court presence of Mano and Kaut of Centralia.
“I thought Landon did a good job but the guy that I really thought did a great job was Kyuss Mano. He worked really hard,” noted State.
W.F. West (5-2, 3-1 league) will play at Eatonville on Thursday. Centralia (1-4, 1-3) travels to Black Hills on Friday for an EvCo match.
