Tuesday’s Girls Soccer: Dell Nets Five Goals As Beavers Edge Wildcats
By The Chronicle
TENINO — Brieanna Dell did what she does best here Tuesday night, scoring five goals for the Beavers in a 6-1 victory over La Center in non-league girls soccer action.
Dell scored her first goal in the fourth minute off an assist from Morgan Miner and then followed up with another score eight minutes later, this time with the help of an assist from Grace Vestal.
La Center got on the board in the 21st minute with a goal by Emma Jarvi before Dell extended the Beavers’ lead again with a goal in the 32nd minute that was assisted by Emma Barr.
“We had a pretty good idea of how they wanted to play so we had a good game plan. I think early on, with a couple of goals in the first 12 minutes we stuck to that game plan well. Then we kind of got away from it for awhile but we talked about it at half and got back to it,” noted Tenino coach Kevin Schultz.
Indeed, the Beavers got hot after 10 minutes of play in the second half. Miner got things started with a goal in the 50th minute that was assisted by Iris Campesino. Two minutes later it was Sierra Pogue setting Dell up for her fourth score of the game, and in the 55th minute Dell set herself up for what wound up being the final score of the night.
Tenino put up 21 shots on the night with 15 of those winding up on target.
“I”m super happy. That’s how we want to play. We want to knock it around. Today we wanted to get behind their defense,” noted Schultz.
Schultz also lauded the play of his team’s defensive unit, including Kayla Feltus and Kathryn Fittinger on the outside edges. The Beavers allowed just five shots on the night with Abby Severse and Trinity Tafoya each tallying one save.
“I thought our defense did a really good job tonight. Alivia Hunter and Andee Schaffran have done a really great job all season just containing the other team’s forwards. We haven’t given up a ton of shots because they’ve just been really hard to get by,” Schultz said.
Tenino (4-0-1) will host Rochester for the Scatter Creek Derby on Thursday.
Note: Centralia fell 5-0 to Montesano on Tuesday at Tiger Stadium. Rochester and Hoquiam played to a scoreless draw in Rochester.
