Toledo (4-0) hosts Rainier on Thursday in the first Central 2B League game of the season.
Elma Takes Down Centralia
ELMA — Centralia tried to make a comeback but wasn’t able to complete it as Elma won 3-1 in a non-league volleyball match here on Monday.
Elma won the first two sets, 25-14 and 25-11. Centralia tried to battle back and won the third set, 25-21. Elma was able to close the match in the fourth set, 25-22.
Centralia’s Maddy Stoeckler was 15-of-15 serving with 15 assists and Kennedy Strophy added five blocks and was 10-of-11 serving.
Hailey Brann tallied six blocks and three kills and Jadyn Hawley contributed seven kills, 15 digs and was 11-of-12 serving. Kylie Sharp recorded 12 digs for the Tigers.
“It was funny talking to my assistant coaches walking out, it felt like we won even though it didn’t say so on the scoreboard,” Centralia coach Marti Smith said. “It’s the best overall effort we’ve had all season. It just felt good after the performance that we had at the Centerville tournament. To bounce back from Saturday we had high energy and were giving to each other and celebrating the highs and the lows tonight. It was helpful to see their potential and how we can truly play when everyone is in sync and playing for each other and not as individuals.”
Centralia (0-2) hosts Montesano on Tuesday in a non-league match.
