VANCOUVER — Gustavo Barragan scored five goals and Andreas Malunat tallied four assists to help United earn a 7-0 win over Forks in the District 4 1A boys soccer tournament championship game here on Saturday.

This is United’s third district title in four years, falling in last year’s district title game to La Center but winning the title the previous two seasons.

“It was awesome. It was a good feeling, it was nice,” United coach Horst Malunat said. “We lost it last year. It was funny, they didn’t have it there. Seton Catholic called and they brought it over after the game. It’s great, that locks us in for state.”

Barragan started the scoring in the seventh minute on an assist by Malunat. In the ninth minute, goalkeeper Alan Contreras booted a ball down field that was corralled by Barragan and put into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.

Malunat scored in the 12th minute on an assist by Isaac Garibay. Barragan completed the hat trick in the 25th minute on an assist by Malunat and Malunat tallied another assist on a goal by Garibay in the 27th minute. Barragan scored his fourth goal of the first half in the 32nd minute on an assist by Garibay to lead 6-0 at halftime.

Barragan ended the scoring in the 42nd minute on an assist from Edgar Barragan.

United outshot Forks 19-6 and Contreras made six saves in another clean sheet.

United improves their record to 15-0-4 overall and the combo squad hasn’t conceded a goal in eight games. United outscored their three opponents in the district tournament 15-0.

“This is probably one of our best games as far as finishing and passing,” coach Malunat said. “We’re looking around like, what is going on, this is the district championship. We never let them get in the game at all. We have to play at that level from now on.”

United will host the first round of the state playoffs at the fortress in Winlock, tentatively scheduled for Wednesday.
