By The Chronicle
Centralia flexed their muscles at Tiger Stadium on Tuesday, defeating W.F. West 3-0 in an Evergreen 2A Conference boys soccer game.
The Tigers started the scoring in the 26th minute on a goal by Julian Velazquez for a 1-0 lead at intermission.
Mario Silva scored in the 43rd minute and Alex Alvarenga put the icing on the victory cake with a goal in the 45th minute.
W.F. West’s Alex Brummer made 14 saves in a losing effort.
“We played well in spurts. Our guys are always a little nervous going up against their rival,” W.F. West coach Allen Anderson said. “They played with a lot more energy than we did tonight. It didn’t seem like mentally we were all there tonight. We had some good moments, it wasn’t our best effort of the year by far.”
Centralia ends the regular season 9-4-1 overall and 8-2 in league games, finishing second in the EvCo and will host a first round district playoff game on Saturday. W.F. West (5-7-3, 3-6) hosts Black Hills on Thursday, with the winner earning the fourth and final spot into the District 4 2A boys soccer tournament.
Barragan Nets Four Goals in United Win Over Castle Rock
CASTLE ROCK — United’s Gustavo Barragan scored four goals to lead Toledo/Winlock to a 9-0 win over Castle Rock in a 1A Trico League boys soccer game here on Tuesday.
Barragan netted a hat trick in a span of three minutes in the first half. He opened the scoring with a goal in the 19th minute on an assist by Brandon Cruz. Barragan scored again in the 21st minute on an assist by David Ethridge and scored an unassisted goal a minute later to complete the hat trick.
Isaac Garibay scored in the 23rd minute on an assist from Cruz. Jonothan Cisneros found the back of the net in the 34th minute on an assist by Tima Kozuvakov for a 5-0 lead at intermission.
United kept the momentum going in the 49th minute, with Garibay scoring on an assist from Andreas Malunat. Malunat scored a goal of his own in the 50th minute on an assist from Thomas Ethridge. Garibay completed a hat trick of his own in the 52nd minute on another assist by Malunat and Gustavo Barragan scored his fourth goal of the night on an assist from Edgar Barragan in the 59th minute to cap the scoring.
“We have first place wrapped up so I’ve got to motivate the kids. I just played a lot of kids, rested a lot of kids,” United coach Horst Malunat said. “It’s hard to get motivated. I think we did OK, we moved the ball. Nine goals are great but I want to work on so many other things to fine tune things for when we play better competition.”
United (11-0-4, 11-0) hosts La Center on Thursday in the regular season finale. United will host the first round of districts on Monday at 7 p.m. in Winlock, with the opponent yet to be determined.
Tenino Falls to Montesano
MONTESANO — Tenino battled with Montesano here on Tuesday but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs earned a 3-1 win in a 1A Evergreen League boys soccer game.
Luis Muro scored the first two goals of the game for the Bulldogs in the 10th and 46th minute. Tenino’s Zack Russell cut the lead to 2-1 in the 78th minute, but Montesano made sure to put the game away on a goal by Max Urbanski in second half stoppage time.
Tenino outshot Montesano 7-6. Devin Billings made three saves in a losing effort for the Beavers.
“I was proud of the boys effort tonight, especially in the second half. We had six shots on goal in the second half to their three and in the game had seven to their six. That’s the first time against one of the top four in our league this year that we’ve had more shots on goal than our opponent,” Tenino coach Kevin Schultz said. “Their keeper made a couple of good saves, especially one with his foot. The boys didn’t quit and pushed hard to tie the game late. Unfortunately we gave up a goal at the end when we had pushed all our bodies forward that makes the score look not as close.”
Schultz also applauded the play of Nate Wood, Toby Suess and William Tennihill on the back line for the Beavers.
Tenino (3-10-1, 3-8) travels to Raymond on Thursday to wrap up the regular season against the Riptide.
