By The Chronicle
UNIVERSITY PLACE — The W.F. West boys earned fifth place in a field of 22 teams at the Curtis Viking Relays here on Saturday.
The Bearcat boys earned first place in the boys pole vault with the combined results of Lafe Johnson, Thomas Koenig and Mathew Senderak. Johnson placed fourth individually with a vault of 12 feet, six inches.
The boys long jump unit of Colby White, Troy Yarter and Jaiyden Camoza earned second place. White earned second in the high jump (6-06) and third in the long jump (19-08.50) and the triple jump (43-04.50).
“It was a great indication of our depth across events. I’m very proud of the level of competition they brought as a group today,” W.F. West coach Autumn Ledgerwood said. “I was very impressed with Colby White today. He was just shy of his PR in triple jump. At high jump he decided to pass at 6’8” in order to attempt 6’9” in the high jump, which would have been a school record. Although he came up short, this was a great indication of his potential to keep raising the stakes.”
W.F. West’s 4×400 relay team of Carver Brennan, Gerardo Sanchez-Carpio, Connor Russell and Aaron Fuller took third place with a time of 3:30.68.
The W.F. West girls pole vault team of Megan Flexhaug, Maliyah Lockwood and Ryan Correia earned third place. Flexhaug finished fifth (9-06) individually.
Taya McCallum, Haley Senderak and Chloe Herron finished fourth as a team in the javelin and McCallum, Herron and Brianna Powe finished fifth as a team in the discus.
W.F. West hosts Aberdeen on Tuesday for a dual Evergreen 2A Conference track meet.
