Thursday’s State 2B Volleyball: Mossyrock Fights Its Way Back to Semifinals

YAKIMA — Mossyrock is back in the semifinals for the third straight year after earning wins over Walla Walla Valley Academy and Kalama at the State 2B volleyball tournament at the Yakima SunDome on Thursday.
The Vikings face Liberty (Spangle) at 9:45 a.m. on Friday in the semifinals.
Mossyrock started the day against Walla Walla Valley Academy and earned a 3-1 win with set scores of 25-23, 16-25, 25-22 and 25-19. It is the second straight season the Vikings have defeated WWVA, earning a 3-2 win in the opening match in last year’s tournament.
The Vikings faced a familiar foe in Kalama in the quarterfinals, with Mossyrock earning a sweep with set scores of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-21.
Kalama won the district title and defeated the Vikings in both meetings during the regular season, but Mossyrock prevailed in the state tournament and is one win away from being back in the state championship game.
Morton-White Pass Survives Day One
YAKIMA — The Timberwolves lost a close opening match to Liberty (Spangle), but managed to make the second day after a victory over Auburn Adventist in the State 2B volleyball tournament at the Yakima SunDome on Thursday.
Morton-White Pass faces Northwest Christian (Colbert) at 8 a.m. in a loser out match.
In the opening match, MWP fell in five sets to Liberty. The Lancers won with set scores of 25-15, 19-25, 23-25, 25-19 and 18-16.
After a tough defeat, MWP rebounded with a sweep of Auburn Adventist, with set scores of 25-17, 25-23 and 25-14.
