CC Basketball: Smith’s Double-Double Not Enough For Centralia

Centralia’s Kylie Smith scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, but her double-double wasn’t enough as Walla Walla won 59-47 in an NWAC women’s basketball game on Friday in the Centralia Crossover tournament in the Hub City.

Courtney Kemble added 12 points for the Blazers. Walla Walla’s Cierra Jo McKeown led all scorers with 19 points.

Centralia jumped out to a 15-10 lead after one quarter. But the Blazers offense went cold in the second quarter, managing just four points and allowing Walla Walla to take a 25-19 lead at halftime.

Each team scored 16 points in the third quarter. Centralia didn’t shoot well in the fourth quarter to ruin their comeback chances.

Centralia (4-3) is back on the court Saturday at 6 p.m. against Peninsula.
Olympic Edges Centralia

VANCOUVER — Centralia made more than half their field goals and made all of their free throws, but the Blazers came up short as Olympic won 88-83 in an NWAC Men’s Basketball game here on Friday.

Austin Curry led the Blazers with 29 points. Marqus Gilson added 14 points and Jephthah Donkor added 10 points and nine rebounds coming off the bench for Centralia.

Centralia shot 51.5 percent from the field and made all seven free throws, but were outrebounded 42-30.

The game featured 15 lead changes. In the second half, Jephthah made a jump shot to cut the Olympic lead to 82-80, but two free throws by Ryan Mobley sealed the win for Olympic.

Centralia (2-6) is back on the court Saturday at 2 p.m. against Spokane.
