Prep Wrestling: Tigers Fall in Dual With Castle Rock
CASTLE ROCK — Centralia won four matches by decision and two more via pin, but Castle Rock notched the dual victory here Wednesday night in nonleague wrestling action.
The pivotal match, according to Tiger coach Scott Phillips, came at 120, where Centralia’s Eddie Matias was up 6 points in the third round. Matias executed what Phillips called a ‘perfectly legal takedown.’
“The referee called it a slam, and the kid did not get up until time was up, so they won the match,” Phillips reported.
Instead of Centralia scoring 3 points for a win, Castle Rock tallied 6 points for a disqualification.
“We made a lot of mistakes tonight that we will be working on,” Phillips said. “However, our guys showed a lot of heart, and are learning.”
Mykka McAllister had the most impressive showing for Centralia, leading Castle Rock’s Jeron Keong 17-4 before pinning Keong in the final minute of the 138 match. First-year wrestler Dayvi Gaspar also impressed, improving to 7-2 in varsity action with a 10-9 overtime win at 126.
Justin Lake (145), Trevor Richey (152) and Izz Almontes added wins by decision for the Tigers, and Jacob Reyna won by pin in 1:35.
Centralia wrestles in the Pat Alexander Invite in Tumwater on Saturday.
