2B Girls Soccer: Toledo Answers Late to Beat Onalaska 2-1

TOLEDO — Kyleigh Holmes scored two minutes before the end of regulation to give Toledo a 2-1 win over Onalaska here Monday night in Central 2B League girls soccer action.

Holmes’ goal came just three minutes after the Loggers tied things up.

“I think in general the whole team played well,” Toledo coach Noel Vazquez said. “We got scored on, and this time, they said, pretty much, ‘I’m not gonna lose this one.’”

Ally Bacon scored on an assist from Ryland Richardson in the 20th minute to put the Indians ahead in the first half, and Holmes’ go-ahead goal came on an assist from Ashlyn Rustan.

“We were pressuring the team right away, right off the get-go, with a new thing we’ve been working on the last couple games,” Vazquez said. “One of the biggest factors was our defense, rotating excellent and communicating.”

Defender Samm Thorpe, a sophomore, played an amazing game, Vazquez added.

Toledo (5-8, 3-8 league) plays at Adna on Wednesday in a 6 p.m. game. Onalaska (3-9, 2-9) hosts Life Christian on Wednesday.

Note: Napavine beat Winlock, 3-0, on Monday night in Winlock. Chloe Stewart, Jenna Sisson and Sydney Burdick all scored for the Tigers (4-9, 4-7), who play at Ocosta on Wednesday. Winlock (3-9, 2-9 league) hosts Kalama on Wednesday. … Adna suffered its first league loss Monday, falling 2-1 at Ocosta. The Pirates (10-2, 10-1 league) host Toledo on Wednesday.
