By The Chronicle
Centralia scored two second half goals to earn a 2-0 win over Rochester in an Evergreen 2A Conference girls soccer game on Thursday at Tiger Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, Alayna Miller got the Tigers on the board in the 61st minute. Centralia added another goal in the 70th minute from Aaliyah Corona on an assist from Alexandra Armstrong to seal the win for Centralia.
“They played good, I was pretty happy with our performance. The girls were disappointed with the results of the last game, so they came out and they did it,” Centralia coach Henry Gallanger said. “We just made a lot of extra effort plays today which was something that we needed, I was much happier with the effort.”
Centralia (7-5-1, 3-4 league) hits the road to face Tumwater on Tuesday in a conference contest while Rochester (0-12-1, 0-7 league) hosts Black Hills on Tuesday on senior night.
Bearcats Come Back to Top Tumwater
TUMWATER — W.F. West earned a big win here on Tuesday, coming back from a halftime deficit to defeat Tumwater 3-1 in an Evergreen 2A Conference girls soccer game.
Tumwater scored in the 15th minute on an own goal for a 1-0 lead at halftime.
W.F. West came out firing on all cylinders in the second half, and tied the game in the 44th minute on a goal from Madi Mencke with an assist from Lauren Tornow. A minute later, Tornow scored a goal of her own to give the Bearcats a 2-1 lead.
Tornow scored again in the 67th minute, and the W.F. West defense was strong down the stretch to earn the win.
“They played fantastic. The first half, they were a little bit sluggish but our defense has improved so much over the last couple of weeks,” W.F. West coach Allen Anderson said. “They’re doing a fantastic job of keeping us in the game. Halftime gave us a good chance to come out and refocus and we put in two quick goals.”
Anderson noted the play of Kiara Steen, saying he was proud of how far she’s come as a soccer player.
“She’s a big reason why we’re able to put so much pressure on other teams,” Anderson said.
It was the first time in Anderson’s three seasons W.F. West has won against Tumwater.
W.F. West (5-7, 4-3 league) will try to keep the momentum going on Tuesday, hosting Aberdeen in an EvCo match.
