The Tigers started slow but gained momentum and never looked back, sweeping Aberdeen 3-0 in an Evergreen 2A Conference volleyball match in Centralia on Thursday.
Centralia took a few points to get going in the first set, but eventually won 25-19. The Tigers dominated the second set, 25-10, and finished off the sweep with a 25-14 third-set win.
“I thought we played really well at times. We wanted to really push ourselves on our side of the court after we had kind of a let down on Tuesday, and in some ways we maybe pressed a little too hard in the first set,” Centralia coach Neil Sharp said. “I thought the girls bounced back and stuck with it. I thought we played a little bit better Tiger volleyball in the second, and most of the third, set.”
Chelsea Petrino and Mckenna Smith each led the team with seven kills. Joelle Mettler served 100 percent with 20 assists and Danika Jensen, Mettler and Smith each had two aces for the Tigers.
Kylie Sharp recorded 12 digs and Petrino added seven digs.
Centralia (13-5, 2-2 league) will face rival W.F. West on Tuesday in an EvCo match in Chehalis.
W.F. West Falls to Black Hills
TUMWATER — W.F. West couldn’t quite keep up with Black Hills here on Thursday, falling to the Wolves 3-0 in an Evergreen 2A Conference volleyball match.
Black Hills won the first set 25-11. The Bearcats were competitive in the second set, but fell 25-22, and lost the third set 25-16.
Makenzie Moore had six kills and 12 digs, Megan Pallas recorded two aces and Kailey Hoyt added three blocks. Ashlyn Whalen led the Bearcats with 12 digs.
“I think they overall played really well. They started off cold in all the matches, but I was proud of the fight. The girls didn’t have any quit in them,” W.F. West coach Emily Mora said. “We’d get behind and have to play catch up. Black Hills played great, and we get to see them again. The girls learned a lot and we’re taking it and moving forward.”
W.F. West (4-4, 2-2 league) hosts Centralia on Tuesday on Pink Night and Kids Camp night in Chehalis.
