W.F. West’s Brady Hinds and Centralia’s Brett Wasson tied for first place at Riverside Golf Course on Monday, but it was the Bearcats earning a 232-283 win over the Tigers in the Twin Cities rivalry Evergreen 2A Conference golf match.
Hinds and Wasson each shot a 44. W.F. West’s Jaron Howell finished in third with a 45.
Andrew Kim and Bryce Dobyns each shot a 47 for the Bearcats, with Dobyns chipping in for birdie on hole No. 6 as a highlight of his round.
“It looked like maybe we were going to get all of them in the 40s. It was a very good job for Brady there — that was better than his average,” W.F. West coach Bruce Thompson said. “Playing in the rain, playing Riverside instead of Newaukum, I’m pleased with what he ended up with.”
Wyatt Magnuson shot a 49, and Jordan Waring rounded out the Bearcats’ scoring with a 57.
Nolan Rice placed second for Centralia with a 51, and was followed by Jackson Buzzard with a 57. Porter Harris fired a 64, Luke Lennox shot a 67 and Brock Terry rounded out the scores with a 68.
Thompson noted the play of JV player Colby White. The District 4 2A Tournament is at Riverside in October, and Thompson hopes to get his players as familiar with the course as possible by then.
“Riverside is always more difficult. You can’t just hit the ball as hard as you want and find the green after that,” Thompson said. “You have to hit through doglegs. It takes a little bit wiser play to play Riverside.”
W.F. West (4-1) hosts Aberdeen on Wednesday at Newaukum Valley in an EvCo match, while Centralia (0-4) faces off against Rochester at Riverside on Wednesday in a conference contest.

Rochester Falls to Tumwater
TUMWATER — Marcus Ashton’s 48 wasn’t enough for Rochester, as the Warriors fell to Tumwater 218-280 in an Evergreen 2A Conference boys golf match at Tumwater Valley Golf Course on Monday.
Parker Mercer earned medalist honors with a 39 for Tumwater. Zach Gruginski shot a 41 for second place and Tyler Thompson was a stroke behind with a 42 to finish third.
Rochester’s Logan Fry and Braden Norquist each shot a 54. Ethan Worden fired a 59, Colton Winters carded a 65 and Gabe Masias, in his first varsity match, shot a 70 to round out the Warriors.
