Wednesday’s Boys Golf: Tumwater Narrowly Edges W.F. West

W.F. West’s Andrew Kim shot a 40 to earn second place, but Tumwater was able to escape Chehalis on Wednesday with a 222-226 win over W.F. West in an Evergreen 2A Conference boys golf match at Newaukum Valley Golf Course.
Tumwater’s Parker Mercer earned medalist honors with a 39, with Kim finishing a shot back. Tyler Thompson placed third with a 42 for the T-Birds.
The Bearcats’ Brady Hinds shot a 44, and Bryce Dobyns finished right behind him with a 45. Wyatt Magnuson shot a 48 and Jordan Waring fired a 49.
“We knew it would be a good contest against Tumwater. The thing I think we have going for us, we have some great guys out here,” W.F. West coach Bruce Thompson said. “They are learning to be more perceptive about course management, it’s nice to see.”
W.F. West is back on the course today, hosting R.A. Long at Newaukum Valley in a nonleague match.

Aberdeen Tops Centralia
Aberdeen’s Brendan King shot a 43 to lead the Bobcats to a 250-264 win over Centralia in an Evergreen 2A Conference boys golf match at Riverside Golf Course on Wednesday.
Centralia’s Rudy Voetberg finished in second with a 45, and Aberdeen’s Jaxson Larson placed third with a 46.
Tigers Brett Wasson and Nolan Rice each shot a 49 and Jackson Buzzard fired a 56.
“We keep improving the bottom half. For us to be competitive with teams in our league, we’re going to have to get a little more depth so our kids need to keep improving,” Centralia coach Hal Gronseth said.
Centralia hosts rival W.F. West on Monday at Riverside Golf Course.

Black Hills Too Much for Rochester
TUMWATER — Marcus Ashton was the lone Warrior to break 50 as Rochester lost an Evergreen 2A Conference match, 227-270, here Wednesday to Black Hills at Tumwater Valley Golf Course.
Ashton finished at 49, while Tyler Cassell earned medalist honors and led the Wolves with a 35. Carson Hughes shot a 39 for Black Hills.
Brayden Norquist and Ethan Worden both shot a 54 for Rochester.
The Warriors are back at Tumwater Valley on Monday to play Tumwater.

Aberdeen Tops Rochester 241-266
Brendan King led Aberdeen to a 241-266 win over Rochester on Monday in Evergreen 2A Conference action at Riverside Golf Course.
King shot a 38 to lead the Bobcats, recording the best score in the match by 9 strokes.
Marcus Ashton led Rochester with a 47, highlighting his round with a birdie on the par-3 hole No. 6.
“He played well,” Rochester coach Kyle Sprague said. “Consistency will get him into the low 40s soon.”
Brayden Norquist shot a 51 for the Warriors, and Logan Fry added a 52. George White shot a 47 for Aberdeen.
Rochester plays Black Hills on Wednesday at Tumwater Valley Golf Course.
