Legion Baseball: I-5 Toyota Takes Title at Red Devil Classic

By The Chronicle
I-5 Toyota completed a perfect tournament over the weekend, earning a win on Saturday to complete pool play, followed by two wins on Sunday to earn the Red Devil Classic championship at Wheeler Field in Centralia.
On Saturday, I-5 Toyota ended pool play with a 5-2 win over Lakeside Recovery out of Issaquah.
The big inning was the second inning, as I-5 Toyota scored all five of their runs in the inning. Adrian Boites had a two-RBI single, Tyson Guerrero had a two-RBI triple and Drew Forgione had an RBI single to bring home all five runs.
Alex Youckton pitched a complete game in the win, allowing no earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
I-5 Toyota entered the semifinals on Sunday against Showtime out of Kelso-Longview, and earned a 9-1 win in five innings.
Nole Wollan and Rob Wall each had two hits and an RBI, and Max Miller and Forgione each had two hits. Nolan Wasson hit a 3-run homerun in the third inning for I-5 Toyota.
Brandon White was excellent on the mound, pitching a complete game while allowing one hit and one run with five strikeouts. White had a perfect game with two outs in the fifth until a walk and bloop triple ended both the perfect game and no hit bids.
The game was scoreless until the third inning when I-5 scored four runs, and added five more runs in the fifth inning to seal the victory.
I-5 Toyota faced off with Seattle Select in the championship game, and earned a 2-0 win to capture the title.
Tyson Guerrero got the start and went the distance, allowing just three hits with nine strikeouts.
Wasson and Forgione each had two hits and Max Miller had two hits and knocked in both runs for I-5 Toyota in the fourth inning.
“We talked as coaches, we’re very pleased with the way we played this tournament. It was a stepping stone going into state, we got quality pitching outings from everyone that threw,” I-5 Toyota assistant coach Jake LeDuc said. “Every day, somebody different was stepping up and getting hits. Our defense was good and there were never costly errors. We’ve got all three phases going into state and it’s anybody’s ball game.”
I-5 Toyota will have a few days of practice before traveling across the state to Spokane for the AAA Legion State Tournament, which begins on Saturday. I-5 Toyota is the No. 2 team out of area 2, and are scheduled to face the Skagit Sox on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Hart Field.
