2A Softball: W.F. West Punches Ticket to State
LONGVIEW — W.F. West earned two wins at the District 4 2A Softball Tournament here Thursday, securing a berth in the state tournament and Friday’s district championship game.
The Bearcats will face Ridgefield on Friday at 6 p.m. at 7th Avenue Park in Longview with their sixth straight District 4 title on the line.
W.F. West opened the tournament against Woodland, clawing their way to a 14-0 win in five innings.
Olivia Dean was 3 for 4, Kyndra Haller was 2 for 4 and Kindra Davis was 3 for 3 with two home runs. Jordan Crawford was 2 for 3 with a double and Kim Frazier was 3 for 3 with two doubles.
Ashlee Vadala allowed one hit — a leadoff single — and struck out four in the win.
The momentum carried over into the semifinals against Columbia River, which W.F. West won 11-1 in five innings.
Dean had two hits, Davis had two hits and another home run, and Frazier was again 3 for 3, making her 6 for 6 at the plate Thursday.
Lexie Strasser allowed three hits and one run with no walks and six strikeouts in the circle.
W.F. West collected 29 hits in two games while allowing four hits.
“The hitting is contagious. There’s a virus today,” W.F. West coach Mike Keen said. “The kids are excited. The very last play of that Columbia River game, OJ (Dean) threw the ball to first, Vadala dug it out, and there was a big sigh of relief.”
Keen also noted Dean and Davis’ performances on the left side of the infield.
W.F. West will try to win its sixth straight district title Friday.
“We’re not going to change a thing. Maybe swing the bats a little better,” Keen joked.
Note: Rochester fell to Columbia River, 3-0, in its opening game, but won its second game over Woodland, 9-6. The Warriors face Tumwater at 4 p.m. in Longview in a loser-out game.
